Dressing
Safari attire is casual and comfortable. In the game lodges, the coast hotels and country hotels, the emphasis is on informality and comfort. However, at Mt Kenya Safari Club, the guests are required to dress formally for dinner. A sweater for the chilly evenings and a light cotton dress or shirt for the day would be quite appropriate. For the business day in the cities, a shirt and tie for men and a business suit for ladies will be quite appropriate.

Health
Whilst no inoculations are required for travelers from Europe and North America, it is advisable to consult your personal doctor before departure for advise on malaria prevention. Anti-malaria measures are strongly recommended especially when visiting areas outside the main cities. Most lodges and camps provide bed nets for night-time protection.

Visas
Currently, an entry visa for Kenya is not required for travelers from most Western European and North American countries if staying for less than 30 days. For those requiring entry visas to Tanzania, they will generally be issued at the point of entry at a fee. Passport size photographs may be required. However, for more exact information, inquiries may be referred to the nearest Kenyan, Tanzanian or Ugandan Embassy or High Commission. Representatives of the United Kingdom may also have the required information.

Currency
The ATM network in Kenya is extensive covering every major town in the country. You thus can use internationally recognized debit cards to withdraw money in local currency. The ATMs are fast taking the place of Traveler's Checks which have been until recently the most convenient means of payment.American Express, Visa, Master Card, JCB, Euro Card, Diners are among the major credit cards widely accepted in East Africa.

US Dollars and UK Pounds are widely accepted along with other major international currencies. There are licensed "Forex Bureaus" in all major towns providing a generally better rate than banks.

Security
Like all major cities in the world, East Africa's towns are not free of crime. It is therefore necessary to ensure that all valuables including tickets, passports and documents, are kept in a safe place at all times. Most hotels and lodges will have safe deposits in the rooms or at the reception. For personal safety, avoid walking in lonely areas. Travel insurance is recommended.

Photography
Although film is available at most game lodges, it is recommended that you bring sufficient film for your safari with you. Always overestimate your requirements. A telephoto or zoom lens of 210mm to 300mm is recommended as well as UV filters and a dust cover for your camera. Bring spare batteries.

Before taking photographs it is recommended that you consult with your tour guide/driver since there are areas where photography is prohibited. In most cases there will be a clear sign indicating that it is a security zone and photography is prohibited

Food
In East Africa, restaurants provide a wide variety of dishes ranging from European to Oriental and African. Specialty restaurants abound in all major towns. Our staff will be quite willing to provide information to suit your clients' needs.

Luggage
On Safari, luggage should be kept to a minimum. Soft bags are essential especially when using the smaller aircraft normally on short domestic routes. On these flights, baggage allowance is limited to 10-15kg per person.

Departure Tax
Currently, departures from East African airports are subject to a tax of USD 40.00, USD 20.00 and USD 20.00 for Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, respectively. Additionally, domestic departures in Kenya attract a tax of KES 200.00 per person. In Kenya, the taxes are included in your ticket fare and no direct payment is required.

Coommunication

There are 2 mobile phone providers in Kenya and one wireless land line provider. The three networks are fairly extensive almost covering all parts of the country. The two mobile phone providers allow you to use your line in any part of East Africa.

Sim cards and mobile phone credit cards are easily available upon arrival at the airport and in various shops in the city and towns.
